The Basic Workbench gives you access to a bunch of important items for setting up your base. Here are the key items you'll need in your first couple of hours:

You’ll have goals in mind, sure — maybe you want to find a certain ore to craft a certain helmet with a certain perk before facing a boss — but it can be just as easy to pick a direction, any direction, and start tunneling.

Glurch can jump quite far; when Glurch lands, it can destroy any wall tiles nearby. You'll want to make sure that you don't accidentally lead Glurch toward your base. Make sure you have plenty of room to move around!

The first time I Core Keeper Gameplay saw glowing red eyes blinking in the dark in one of the more distant biomes I got so panicked I wound up swinging a berry pudding I had in my inventory instead of my sword. Tunneling into any new area, surrounded by pitch-black darkness and only clearing a path wide enough for yourself can be creepy and claustrophobic.

awards experience points whenever you do a relevant action (which I love), so running around will eventually increase your movement speed, and slashing slimes and creepy crawlers will help bolster your melee might.

Torch - these are key to being able to see in the dark of the underground. Holding the Shift key temporarily pulls torches, from anywhere in inventory, into the currently selected hot-bar slot, for illumination and placement.

Off-Hand Ability: Equipped off-hand items (such as Shields) will have a special ability that can be activated by pressing this button. Some items have a cooldown which is indicated by the bar below the icon.

Once built, place the Crafting Table in a safe location to interact with it. This station is needed to get basic armor, weapons, and advanced crafting stations.
